This is a combination class and rehearsal for a complete theatrical production of a one-act play (non-musical). Students will audition for parts, learn to block, develop characters, stage the show, and present a one-act show within six weeks. Show is March 7 at 7:00pm in the Prairie Vista Theater.
Deadline for enrollment is January 14. The play performed will be chosen by the instructors based on the number and skill level of the enrolled students.
Instructor: Cameron Carlson with CAPS Instructors
Cameron is a career educator and coach and holds a BA in Secondary English Education with endorsements Speech and Theater, a Masters degree in Educational Administration and Supervision, and an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership, all from Wichita State University. As a debate and forensics coach, he has coached state and regional champions and had teams perform in national tournaments. In addition to coaching, Cameron has been on stage in over 100 productions and has been recognized by the Mary Jane Teall awards.
Cameron established Carlson Acting & Performance Services (CAPS) in 2017 to continue a four-generation long theater education and support services tradition, dating back to Vaudeville. His family has started or supported theater performance companies in California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Wyoming, and most recently in Kansas through the MADCAP Comedy & Improv Troupe, the professional performance arm of CAPS. Cameron’s passion for theater education is complemented by a team of other educators who assist with lesson planning, course delivery, and performance-based assessment. Offering specific, positive, and supportive feedback is a hallmark of CAPS.
